Taught By Sensei DeVonte Bennett
Meet Sensei Devonte Bennett Bey, a First-Degree Black Belt in Okinawa Shuri-Ryu Karate and a former U.S. Marine with more than 20 years of martial arts experience, including amateur MMA competition. Devonte is a national champion with the USAMA and has competed in martial arts tournaments at the world level.
Inspired by the profound impact martial arts has had on his own life, Devonte is passionate about helping young people develop confidence, discipline, resilience, and character through martial arts training. For more than a decade, he has integrated martial arts principles into his own family life and has been teaching and mentoring youth through martial arts and leadership programs since 2021.
Following years of teaching under his mentor, Kyoshi Maria Evans, whose retirement in December 2025 marked the end of an era, Devonte has continued her legacy by founding Shozen's Virtual Academy. Built upon the values, traditions, and teachings passed down through Shozen's Martial Arts, the academy serves as a direct extension of that lineage, bringing authentic martial arts education and character development to students wherever they may be.
